The Boys is crossing over with Call of Duty

The collaboration likely has something to do with the upcoming premiere of the fourth season of The Boys on Prime Video.

Activision's titan of a video game franchise, Call of Duty, is poised for a collaboration with the cult-favorite Amazon Prime series, The Boys. The latest evidence of this thrilling intersection of pop culture domains was discovered in the recent trailer for the game's upcoming Vondel update.

Who wouldn't want to see that smile in Call of Duty?

The recently concluded Summer Game Fest showcased a new trailer for the upcoming Resurgence map, Vondel, in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. It was here that eagle-eyed fans noticed a familiar logo spray-painted on the side of a building, nestled almost inconspicuously at the 1-minute mark. The symbol? None other than the insignia of the wildly popular Amazon original series, The Boys.

Naturally, this brief teaser set off waves of speculation among fans. In tandem with a recently redacted image teased by its developers of a character cryptically named "Butch," players and fans alike are connecting the dots. Given the brazen and edgy Billy Butcher, portrayed by Karl Urban in The Boys, shares the same nickname, the anticipation is reaching a fever pitch.

And it's not just Billy Butcher making the rounds in the rumor mill; speculation is also rife about other characters from the gritty, satire-laden superhero series.

There's buzz about the potential inclusion of Homelander, the morally complex character played by Antony Starr, primarily triggered by The Boys' official Twitter account posting an image of him after the trailer's reveal.

Given that Activision has played host to other significant crossovers in the past, the idea of The Boys joining the fray isn't entirely out of left field. Previous guest appearances have included the likes of the Terminator, Rambo, Die Hard, and Scream, along with sporting icons such as Kevin Durant, Lionel Messi, and Neymar Jr., and even cult favorite movie monsters Godzilla and King Kong.

The only reason why it'd be there is for an upcoming crossover, which could be announced soon as fans wait for the launch of Season 4 of The Boys.

While fans wait with bated breath for this exciting crossover, the arrival of Season 4, slated for June 14, isn't all they have to look forward to. The update will introduce a brand-new battle pass, additional DLC weapons, and other yet-to-be-revealed enhancements.

It remains uncertain whether the crossover will alter the in-game map dynamics like the King Kong and Godzilla event did, or if it will primarily involve the addition of new operator skins, the gaming community is on the edge of its seat. After all, who wouldn't want to see Billy Butcher or Homelander leaping into the fray in Call of Duty's intricate battlegrounds?

For now, all we have are tidbits and speculation, but there's no denying the enticing prospect of such a crossover. If one thing is certain in the world of gaming, it's that the unexpected often brings the most excitement.

Despite its shortcomings, Activision Blizzard is still trying its best to keep all of its players in Call of Duty entertained.

Hopefully, we'll find out more about the premiere date of The Boys Season 4 alongside the arrival of the skins based on the show's characters in Call of Duty.
