In this day and age, a delayed release of either a last-gen or PC port of a successful game is met with apprehension as well as doubt. And, while nobody believed that Avalanche Software could break the unfortunate trend, it appears that the studio might have just done the impossible.
After delaying the PS4 and Xbox One ports of Hogwarts Legacy for further polishing, Avalanche proved all of the doubters wrong.
Obviously, the PS5 version of Hogwarts Legacy looks and runs so much better. But, the PS4 port isn't terribly behind.
As proven in the video above, the PS4 version of Hogwarts Legacy runs at a 1600 x 900 resolution and hovers around 30 to 50 fps with unlocked framerates. On the other hand, the PS4 Pro version runs even better at a 1920 x 1080p resolution, with framerates hovering around 30 to 60 fps.
Neither is as smooth as, let's say, the Performance Mode, which sees Hogwarts Legacy run north of 80 fps at a 1920 x 1080 resolution on the PlayStation 5. But, given how badly studios botch the last-gen versions of AAA games these days, Avalanche deserves credit.
With that said, we can expect to see a similarly praise-worthy performance for Hogwarts Legacy on the Xbox One.
Hogwarts Legacy enjoyed the biggest launch of any video game published by Warner Bros. Discovery earlier this year when it sold over 12 million copies in two weeks. The number has since increased to 15 million as of March 31. But, with the PS4 and Xbox One ports performing so well, Hogwarts Legacy will likely sell several million more before the year ends.
Fingers crossed, Hogwarts Legacy's Nintendo Switch port, which comes out on July 25, will get to enjoy a similarly magical reception among audiences.
Speaking of last-gen ports, Firaxis Games has officially confirmed the release date for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports of Marvel's Midnight Suns. Unfortunately, the Switch port is no longer coming.
