Hogwarts Legacy for the Nintendo Switch has been delayed

Avalanche Software announced that the game will be coming to the handheld in November.

Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest video game releases this year and the numbers continue to grow as it releases on last gen consoles. But, fans have been wondering about the Nintendo Switch release for a while, and it appears that this question will finally be answered.

The handheld version of Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed again.

Harry Potter fans waiting for Hogwarts Legacy on the Nintendo Switch will have to wait a while longer. The launch of the game on the handheld has been pushed back by several months.

Avalanche Software has announced that the game will be delayed until November. Hogwarts Legacy was originally set for release on the Switch in July.

"Hogwarts Legacy launches on Nintendo Switch on 11/14/23," Avalanche Software announced on Twitter. "We know fans are looking forward to playing on Switch, therefore creating the best possible experience is our top priority. Thank you for your patience."

This isn't the first time Hogwarts Legacy has gone through a delay. Previously, Avalanche delayed the release of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game from February 2023 to May 2023.

The studio may be taking the extra development time to achieve more stability for the less powerful and older generation console. The Switch has time and again struggled to run some of the larger open-world titles like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Although, surprisingly enough, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom performed extremely well on the aging console.

Given the magnitude of the open world featured in Hogwarts Legacy, it will be an amazing feat for Avalanche to have the game run smoothly on the Switch. The Witcher 3, Nier Automata, and No Man’s Sky are some of the ports that have managed to run well on the handheld.

Hogwarts Legacy was released earlier this year and has been one of the best-selling titles of 2023. As of May, the game has sold 15 million copies and earned over $1 billion in revenue. The title reached a peak of 489,000 concurrent players on Steam which ranks the second-highest player count for a single-player game behind Cyberpunk 2077.

Hogwarts Legacy has already sold over 15 million copies.

Hogwarts Legacy has also been well-received by critics and fans alike. The game received generally favorable reviews on all platforms.

It will be interesting to see how well the title performs on the Nintendo Switch. If the game lives up to the performance of the PC and console versions, it will surely sell well on the handheld. However, if it performs below expectations, fans may review bomb the title similar to other recent AAA games that have encountered performance and technical issues.

Hogwarts Legacy is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and will be released on the Nintendo Switch on November 14, 2023.
