PSA: You can start preloading Final Fantasy 16 on your PS5

To be specific, the preload times for Final Fantasy 16 on the PlayStation 5 started today, June 20.

Along with Diablo 4 and Starfield, Final Fantasy 16 is one of the most talked about games on the internet right now. Thanks to Square Enix and its extensive marketing push as well as the magnificently done two-hour demo, fans are now looking forward to the game to hit the PlayStation 5 on June 22. However, because it's believed to be a massive game (right around 100GB, as per the rumors), those who pre-ordered the game are wondering when they can start pre-loading ahead of the game's release. The good news? It's already started.

As the hype surrounding the FF16 demo starts to die down, fans are now looking forward to playing the game.

Yesterday, June 19, Square Enix confirmed that the pre-load period for Final Fantasy 16 would begin today, June 20.

The news comes from the game's Japanese Twitter account, leaving some confusion as to whether the pre-load time would apply to all regions globally or exclusively to Japan.

What does this pre-load period mean for the game's enthusiastic followers? It offers players the chance to download Final Fantasy 16 ahead of its launch, minimizing waiting time and ensuring players can jump straight into the immersive world of Valisthea as soon as the game is released. With the clock ticking down to FF16's launch on June 22, every second counts, and this pre-load period allows dedicated players to get a head start.

In terms of file size, there's no official word yet, but given the scale and detail of Final Fantasy 16, players can likely expect a substantial download. If it's in line with other current-gen-exclusive titles, clearing some room on your PS5 is a wise move.

According to @PlayStationSize, FF16 should take up around 90GB worth of space on the PS5 at launch. Even if you include the minuscule-sized Day One patch, we're still looking at around 91GB.

Just to be safe though, make sure to clear around 100GB on your PS5.

The character of Duchess Anabella Rosfield likely took inspiration from Marguerite of Anjou, whom Shakespeare portrayed as an intelligent, power-hungry and ruthless woman.

With just a few days left until its launch, it's clear that the developer is doing everything to ensure an enjoyable experience for players right from the start.

However, if you're still not sold on FF16 yet after that demo, you can wait until tomorrow, June 21, for the review embargo to lift. But, we do recommend placing your pre-order for FF16 soon, to enjoy the following benefits:

Standard Edition - $69.99

  • Braveheart
  • Cait Sith’s Charm
  • Scholar’s Spectacles (Digital copy only)

Deluxe Edition - $99.99

  • Cloth world map of Valisthea
  • Special Clive Rosfield steelbook case
  • Braveheart
  • Cait Sith’s Charm

Digital Deluxe Edition - $89.99

  • Digital Mini Artbook
  • Digital Mini Soundtrack
  • Braveheart
  • Cait Sith’s Charm
  • Scholar’s Spectacles
With FF16 spoilers leaking all over the internet, it's best to stay off social media until you've finished playing the game yourself.

A more expensive, Collector's Edition, is also available for $349.99 although we don't recommend waiting for it seeing as it hasn't been available ever since it was opened for pre-order earlier this year.
