The boxing legend joins a growing list of former athletes to invest in their own esports team.

The 42-year-old Filipino is a trailblazer for the Philippines. He's brought a lot of honor to the Southeast Asian country after a storied boxing career. However, now that he's retired, Manny Pacquiao has turned his focus towards philanthropy, politics, and esports.

After devoting most of his life to boxing, Pacquiao is now a Senator in the Philippines who is vying for the Presidency in the upcoming 2022 elections.

In a surprise announcement, Manny Pacquiao confirmed that he's going to establish his own esports team.

Watch out for the Philippines' latest esports team

In his first post about his latest business venture, the boxing icon announced on Twitter that he was "revealing something special" before asking audiences to tune in on December 4 at 2:00 PM for what many assume is the unveiling of the organization's lineup and members.

As of the time of writing, Team Pacquiao GG has yet to reveal anything outside of its existence. It remains unclear which esport title the organization will field lineups in as well or if it's going to be purely composed of streamers, or a mix of both professional players and streamers.

Een Mercado, a popular cosplayer in the Philippines and also one of the team's possible members, has also tweeted about Team Pacquiao GG.

When it comes to esports, Dota 2 is, by far, the most popular in the Philippines. Other popular esport games in the country include Mobile Legends, VALORANT, and League of Legends.
