All animal symbol puzzle doors in Hogwarts Legacy and their solutions

If you're confused about how to solve the animal symbol puzzle doors, look no further.

Hogwarts Legacy has countless open-world activities, including numerous puzzles with unique rewards to keep you busy. One such activity is solving the symbol door puzzles.

During your ventures around Hogwarts Castle, you will have encountered a strange locked door with symbols around it and two dials nearby. At first, it might be a bit confusing to understand. But it is much simpler than you think.

There are a total of twelve such locked symbol doors around Hogwarts Castle. This guide will show you how to solve the puzzle and where to find all twelve locked doors.

Puzzle Solution & Door 1

While you can brute force your way into the locked doors by rotating the dials with the '?' symbol, there is a way to solve the puzzle and access these locked rooms.

First, you need a "cheat sheet" or a note containing different animal symbols corresponding to a specific number from 0 to 9. These are the same animal symbols you see on and around the locked symbol doors.

To get this note, first, fast travel to the Divination Classroom floo flame in the Library Annex.

Divination Classroom floo flame location on the map.

From here, go through the small archway that leads to the wooden platform.

The archway is right by the floo flame.

Follow the wooden platform until you see the first right.

First right leading to the first door.

Take the first right, and you will find your first locked door directly ahead.

We will get to solving it shortly.

You will also find a small chest on a bench before the locked symbol door.

The small chest with the "cheat sheet" helpful for solving the puzzles.

Open it, and you will find the note with the animal symbols and the numbers they represent. We've given some names to the symbols to remember them better.

This will be saved in you inventory so you can access it anytime you like.
  • 0 - Furry Beast.
  • 1 - Unicorn.
  • 2 - Graphorn.
  • 3 - 3-Headed Dragon.
  • 4 - Owl.
  • 5 - Furry Spider.
  • 6 - Lizard.
  • 7 - Squid.
  • 8 - Spider.
  • 9 - Hydra.

Now, we will unlock the first door and use it as an example to explain how to solve the puzzle. The puzzle is simple mathematics, where you add numbers to get the target number.

When you approach the locked symbol door, you will get a prompt to 'Reveal' the content of the door. Upon doing so, it will show two numbers, each within a triangular shape.

These numbers won't be shown until you reveal them by interacting with the door.

Each corner of the triangular shape will have a number, one of the symbols on the note, and either a '?' or '??.'

There are two numbers, one at the top and the other at the bottom. Both are enclosed within their triangular shape. The top always has one question mark '?' and the bottom has two question marks '??.'

The dials on either side of the door represent the value that will go in those question-marked circles.

All you have to do is change them to a number that will add to the rest of the numbers, to get the final middle value.

The middle values are always the target values And the numbers (or symbols representing numbers) must equal the target value.

Let's take the first door as an example. For the first door, we have 9 and 4. The 9 is surrounded by a triangular shape having 2, 3-headed dragon, and a '?.'

Now, we already have one numerical value, which is 2. To know the value of the 3-headed dragon symbol, we refer to the note we got from the chest.

According to the note, the 3-headed dragon represents 3. This means that the total now is 5.

We need 4 more to get the target value which is 9. This is where the dials come into play. First, go to the dial with '?', which is the value surrounding the target number 9.

You will notice that the dials only have animal symbols. The same symbols as the one on the note. Since we need the number 4, refer to the note to see which symbol represents 4. In this case, it is the owl symbol. So, change the dial to the owl symbol.

Similarly, look at the bottom number, 4, in this case. And it is surrounded by 0, 1, and '??.' This means the dial with '??' must be changed to a number that will add up with 0 and 1 to give us our target numerical value, 4.

For the bottom one to total up to 4, the '??' must be 3. So, once again, we refer to the note and see that the 3-headed dragon represents 3. We change the dial with '??' to the 3-headed dragon symbol.

After changing both dials, you can go to the door and see a prompt to open the door.

Interact with it to open, and it will unlock if you've set the dials to represent the correct symbols.

Now that you know how to solve the symbol puzzle door. Let's look at where you can find the rest of the doors and their solutions.
