Carlito was one of the fan-favorite mid-card WWE stars for the better part of the 2000s. After signing with the brand back in early 2003, was effective both as a heel and as a babyface. Unfortunately, his time with the WWE came to a stop when the wrestling promotion released him in May 2010. But, that hasn't stopped the WWE from bringing him back sporadically and even attempting to sign him long-term. Now, after several attempts, Carlito might finally be ready to sign below the dotted line.
As spotted by Wrestling News, the WWE insider, @BoozerRasslin, claimed that Carlito might sign a new contract with the WWE this time after refusing to do so several times in the past.
Carlito was one of the highlights of this year's WWE Backlash after appearing in front of his hometown crowd in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The apple-spitting, epitome of cool came to the aid of Bad Bunny in his San Juan Street Fight with Damian Priest after Judgment Day, specifically Dominik Mysterio and Finn Balor, successfully interrupted the match and fought off the initial reinforcement, Rey Mysterio.
Carlito's involvement was later followed by the rest of the Latino World Order and even Savio Vega, who hasn't appeared in the WWE since 2020 as part of the retirement ceremony of the WWE Hall of Famer, The Undertaker.
As for Carlito, the WWE tapped him to do a guest appearance in the Men's Royal Rumble in 2021. He later came back the next night on Monday Night RAW as reports emerged that the WWE wanted to sign Carlito to a lengthier deal that saw him work both as a talent and as a coach.
Obviously, the WWE and Carlito never met eye to eye, which is why we haven't seen the Puerto Rican legend as a WWE regular.
At the moment, Carlito keeps himself busy by wrestling for various promotions around Puerto Rico, including the WWC.
Going international for this year's Backlash PPV proved to be a massive success as the packed stadium cheered on all the participants. If the WWE wants to bring back another PPV to Puerto Rico next year, it only makes sense to beef up the roster with local legends like Carlito and maybe even Savio Vega.
Speaking of Backlash, the PPV was largely successful with Cody Rhodes ending the night with a surprising win over Brock Lesnar.
