AEW fans, get ready! AEW Fight Forever is coming to consoles near you on June 27.
Fightful Select confirmed this weekend, revealing that AEW will reveal more about the upcoming game next week.
AEW, or All Elite Wrestling, has made a name for itself as a more mature alternative compared to the TV-PG product by the WWE. In its bid to compete with the world's foremost wrestling promotion, AEW brought in Yuke's, the long-time WWE 2K developers, to make AEW Fight Forever - a wrestling game that isn't unlike WWE 2K.
Unfortunately, the game's development has been marred by delays and radio silence.
The last we heard, the developers and AEW owner, Tony Khan, couldn't agree about the state of the game.
However, with this recent news, AEW Fight Forever might finally be ready to take the fight to WWE 2K23, which continues to expand its roster with both paid and free post-launch additions.
Unfortunately, unlike WWE 2K, AEW Fight Forever isn't meant to be an annual franchise. After the game's launch, it will get full support from the developers and updates, much like a live-service title.
As AEW reportedly owns the rights to the game's engine, it's possible AEW might replace Yuke's for the next time.
The reported release date for AEW Fight Forever helps explains why Gameranx noted Just For Games, a French retailer, for updating its listing for the game. Finally, also just this week, eagle-eyed observers noticed that the Xbox Store started listing the game's achievement trophies and opened the game for pre-installation.
