Gearbox has once again delayed the launch of the highly anticipated PC game Homeworld 3.
The publishing company took to its Twitter account on Thursday to announce this development. The game was originally slated for a 2022 launch before it was postponed to the first half of 2023.
Gearbox wrote that this decision stems from its dedication to providing fans with a game that is up to the standards of its previous entries in the series.
It wrote, "Our primary goal is to deliver a Homeworld experience that lives up to the standards set by its predecessors and is worthy of this series' incredible legacy."
The company promised that the title is well on the way to that level but more time is needed to make certain of it. In its words, "Homeworld 3 is shaping up to be exactly that, but in order to fully realize that vision we need more time to refine and polish the game."

For fans who have preordered the game’s Collector’s Edition, the company reassured them that its plans for that haven’t changed. In response to a user who asked how the postponed launch affects this item, Gearbox promised that gamers will receive it when the game launches next February.
Gearbox further promised to provide a progress update on the game this summer. The company wrote, "We are looking forward to sharing our biggest Homeworld 3 progress update yet later this summer. We’ve been working on a lot behind the scenes, and we can’t wait to show everyone."
We presume this update will include a new gameplay video and a demo, or at least one of them, since the company made this revelation in response to a user’s request for more information on those fronts.

In a blog post accompanying the release, Gearbox revealed it delayed the game only to refine the game and ensure it is up to par with the "legacy of its predecessors."
The company claims the delay isn't the result of a change in scope, but it didn't deny technical issues are a factor.
While fans of the sci-fi strategy game expressed disappointment at another delay, they expressed their support of Gearbox and their decision to not compromise on quality. In fact, some people went as far as encouraging the company to take all the time it needs to finish the game – a sentiment that the game’s developers will certainly take kindly to.
Asides from Gearbox’s dedication to delivering a high quality game, we imagine that Electronic Arts’ recent experience is another incentive.
In the wake of Battlefield 2042’s launch, some gamers started harassing the developers for the game’s poor state. Recently, EA had to release a statement in condemnation of the act and promise repercussions for offenders.
Homeworld 3 will launch on PC sometime in February 2024.
