Capcom’s adventure game Pragmata will no longer arrive this year

When Capcom first announced the game in 2020, it set a release date of 2022.

On Monday, Capcom once again disappointed fans who were looking forward to a favorable update on its upcoming action-adventure video game, Pragmata.

Capcom did not provide a new release date for Pragmata.

During its Capcom Showcase presentation, the studio revealed that Pragmata has been delayed for a second time, this time indefinitely.

Alongside a new trailer of the game, the studio explained the situation, saying:

It is with a heavy heart that we must further postpone the release of Pragmata. Our team is currently hard at work making the best game that we possibly can, but we need more time. We will continue to do our best to ensure that the final product is one that is worthy of your patience.

Capcom first unveiled the title in 2020 during the PlayStation 5 showcase, where it instantly wowed audiences. In the original trailer, we saw a soldier exploring a dead city in what appeared to be a dystopian future with a small girl in tow. The two would eventually end up on the moon's surface for some reason.

The new trailer, released on Monday, provided more insight into the game, although it only served to further its mystery. For one, it revealed that the little girl we mentioned above is named Diana and she might not be as helpless as she seemed in the first trailer. We also get the idea that her soldier companion doubles as an astronaut and her protector.

The new trailer shows him fighting robots on a space station. While he fights, he asks Diana for help but she is preoccupied and doesn’t pay him any mind. He picks her up, places her on his back, and makes a quick getaway.

One scene shows the two characters standing alongside a third one – a robot, although it seemed to be a friendly one.

We suspect that Diana is also a robot or, at the very least, has robotic parts. Towards the end of the trailer, we see her using a floating technological interface and her eyes bear a resemblance to this interface thus suggesting a link between her and the technology.

Pragmata's new trailer revealed the girl's name as Diana and hints she has technological capabilities.

Like we said earlier, this is the second time Capcom will be delaying the game. When it unveiled it to the public in 2020, it set a 2022 release date. One year later, in 2021, it apologized – via a video of Diana – and announced a new release window of 2023, which it has also now changed.

Even though this is disappointing news, we believe it is better than the alternative, which is to release an unfinished game to the market. That would have most certainly angered fans and cratered trust in the company for some time to come.

Nevertheless, the company’s refusal to commit to a set release date is concerning as we believe it hints at a major setback in the game’s development.

If Pragmata does see the light of day, we know it will be playable on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.

By the way, Capcom isn’t all disappointment. During the Xbox Games Showcase, the company unveiled Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, a new and exciting game made in the same mold as Asura's Wrath and Okami. Finally, in celebration of its 40th anniversary, it launched a website that features many classic video games for free, including Street Fighter and Mega Man.
