Mortal Kombat 2 taps Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn actor

The action-adventure film rounds up its cast with three new actors who join a host of returning actors and three earlier additions.

Mortal Kombat fans have gotten a huge boost on the second film as New Line has now rounded up the film’s cast.

Martyn Ford is most popular for playing Koshmar in the fourth Boyka Undisputed film.

According to Deadline, New Line has hired the British actor, Martyn Ford, to bring the franchise’s ultimate villain, Shao Kahn to life.

Given Ford’s piercing sinister look, his bodybuilding history, and his intimidating height – he stands 6 feet 8 inches tall – we certainly see his appeal and why New Line chose him.

Ford isn't the only new addition to the film’s cast. Joining him are Ana Thu Nguyen, Damon Herriman, and Desmond Chiam who star as Queen Sindel, Quan Chi, and the leader of the Edenians, King Jerrod, respectively.

Ford is highly popular for his role in Boyka Undisputed and has also appeared in F9: The Fast Saga, The Sandman, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Up next, he will star as General Karlak in the forthcoming fantasy film Red Sonja.

Nguyen’s portfolio includes The Spy Who Never Dies and a role in the upcoming film Suka. Chiam has appeared in The Falcon and Winter Soldier, Partner Track, and So Help Me Todd. Herriman, on the other hand, has had roles in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Lone Ranger, Mindhunter, and The Tourist.

As far as we know, the quartet of actors is all that remains for the film to have a complete cast. New Line had earlier cast The Boys’ Karl Urban, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Adeline Rudolph, and You’s Tati Gabrielle as Johnny Cage, Kitana, and Jade respectively.

Mortal Kombat followed Cole Young and his efforts to defend the Universe from the Outworld.

At the moment, we are not privy to the film’s plot, although we expect this to change as production rumbles on.

Lewis Tan will reprise his role as Cole Young from the first film. We can also confirm that Max Huang will reprise his role as Kun Lao, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Jessica McNamee as Sonya, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Josh Lawson as Kano, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, and Joe Taslim as Bi-Han/Sub-Zero.

Simon McQuoid will once again sit in the director’s chair reprising his role from the first film. He will direct based on a screenplay by Jeremy Slater whose portfolio includes Moon Knight and The Umbrella Academy. Award-winning filmmaker James Wan produces, alongside McQuoid, Michael Clear, Todd Garner, and E. Bennett Walsh.

By the way, there is a new Mortal Kombat game on the way. Earlier this month, we saw the title’s gameplay trailer at the Summer Game Fest and it looked bonkers. If the game turns out as the trailer depicts, we are confident it will be loads of fun for fans of the franchise who have clamored for a sequel for a long time.

One thing, though – Cole Young, the original character that starred in 2021’s Mortal Kombat, will not feature in the game. The reason for this, according to the studio’s lead system designer, is that the game and cinema experiences are different and will be approached in that way.

Mortal Kombat 2 is only just starting production and we currently don’t have a release date for it.

  1. Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn is not something I expected. Wonder if he will bulk up for the role?

    1. Have you not seen this dude? He is already super jacked - probably why they chose him, minimal body work needed.

  2. People were saying a few years ago he’s be perfect for the role, he is jacked and hella intimidating. Solid choice!
