Is Jamie Foxx’s Day Shift finally getting a sequel?

Day Shift’s director has apparently pitched the idea for a Day Shift sequel, titled Night Shift, to Netflix.

Jamie Foxx is one of the most talented people on the planet, having won an Academy Award and Grammy Award, which is all on top of being an accomplished comedian. Among his diverse acting credits is that of the vampire killer and assassin, Bud Jablonski, in last year's Netflix original film, Day Shift. Unfortunately, it wasn't well-received by critics and got mixed reviews, even among audiences. Yet, despite the lukewarm reception, it appears that it performed well enough to, at the very least, sparked conversations for a sequel.

Jamie Foxx led a cast that included Dave Franco, Meagan Good, and Snoop Dogg in Day Shift.

J. J. Perry, the film’s director, recently appeared on the YouTube channel Corridor Crew, where he revealed that there's a chance that a sequel will see the light of the day.

He said, "We are hopefully going to do Night Shift. We just put that pitch out there, we're hoping to get the writer who did John Wick 4."

While we don’t know who Perry was referring to as the "writer who did John Wick 4," since that film had two writers, all fingers point to Shay Hatten. Hatten worked with Tyler Tice, who wrote the story, on the screenplay for the first film and we believe he will make a return for the sequel if it ever happens.

Apart from Foxx, Day Shift starred Snoop Dogg, Meagan Good, Dave Franco, Scott Adkins, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
Day Shift was Perry’s full directorial debut. His experience spans second unit directing and stunt work. He has an enviable portfolio that includes stunt work on Avatar: The Way of Water, Murder Mystery 2, and Samaritan.

Given Netflix’s recent ruthlessness in canceling projects it deems uninteresting, the fact that Day Shift might get a sequel says something about its audience appeal.

J. J. Perry previously worked on the John Wick franchise, among others.

In other Netflix news, Chris Hemsworth has officially confirmed that there is a third Extraction film in the pipeline. The actor, otherwise known as Thor, announced this development at the recent TUDUM event in Brazil.

That event also saw the architect of the Snyderverse films, Zack Snyder, unveil a new featurette of his upcoming film Rebel Moon, among other things.

At the moment, the Day Shift sequel is still only an idea. If this changes and Netflix picks it up, rest assured that we will tell you about it.

Besides, Foxx’s health situation, which we still don’t know much about, means that even if Netflix approves the film, it will take some time for production to start.
