Horror fans rejoice as Slender: The Arrival Twitter page teases update

Ten years after the last Slender Man game, Blue Isle Studios is teasing that something sinister is on the way.

Horror video game fans have been eating good this year with games such as Resident Evil 4, Layers of Fear, and the Dead Space Remake released in the first half of the year and Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, Alan Wake 2, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre all coming in the second half of the year.

The last Slender Man game arrived almost a decade ago in October 2013.

This situation has made fans of the genre happy to no end – and they are about to become even happier. Blue Isle Studios, the company behind the Slender Man video game adaptations, has something in the oven for us.

Yesterday, the developer took to its social media accounts – Twitter and YouTube – and teased fans that there is something Slender Man related on the way. Alongside a super short clip that lasts only 13 seconds, we got the words "He's waiting..."

The clip shows one scene with a lone, haggard-looking figure crouched on the floor of what looks like a basement. If you have played Slender: The Arrival, you will recognize the scene from the game. And yes, it still inspires mind-numbing horror.

On its YouTube, the studio attached a link that leads to a website. When we visited, we saw a timer that was counting down to July 27, which is when we expect the studio will reveal what it is cooking.

At the moment, we cannot tell whether Blue Isle Studios intends to tread the same direction as many of the other horror video game companies and develop a remake or whether it plans to develop a new installment in the series.

Right now, we lean more toward the theory that the studio is working on a remake of Slender: The Arrival. One reason for this is the fact that the link leads to that game's website. Surely, if they have a new game on the way, they would create a new website? Or link to the studio's own website.

We don't know whether Blue Isle Studios has plans for a remake or a sequel.

On the other hand, the link's destination might be misdirection and an effort to throw those of us who play at being sleuths off the studio's trail. If they choose to do a remake, we would certainly understand, especially after the numbers that the Resident Evil 4 Remake put up.

One thing we are sure of, though, is that fans can't wait for D-Day to arrive. Going through Blue Isle's YouTube and Twitter comments, it is easy to see that this update has made fans very excited. One other thing that is evident, though, is their disappointment at how long it has taken the studio to take such a step.

We certainly understand the sentiment since the last game in the series, Slender: The Arrival, was released almost a decade ago, in October 2013. And although it received mixed critical reviews, fans were unequivocal in their approval.

By the way, one of the most anticipated horror titles this year, Alan Wake 2, will arrive in October, Sony recently revealed.

  1. I will be honest, I didn't really care for the 2013 release but I will check this out. Maybe the improvements and time have led them to make a better game. I guess we will find out more on July 27th.
