With less than two months to go before Christopher Nolan's biopic Oppenheimer hits theaters, there has been speculation about how long his latest film will run, but now we finally have a definitive answer.

In a recent interview with Total Film magazine, the renowned filmmaker disclosed that Oppenheimer is going to be longer than Interstellar, which currently stands as his longest film yet, stating:

It's slightly longer than the longest we've done... It's kissing three hours.

Considering the intricate subject matter of the creation of the atomic bomb and the profound emotional toll it had on the American physicist credited with its invention, J. Robert Oppenheimer, a three-hour runtime seems justifiable. Furthermore, Nolan's love for existentialism and metaphysical themes suggests that Oppenheimer has the potential to become his magnum opus, given his latest comments about the film.

I think of any character I’ve dealt with, Oppenheimer is by far the most ambiguous and paradoxical, which, given that I’ve made three Batman films, is saying a lot.

Matt Damon, who portrays Lieutenant General Leslie Groves, has also expressed his enthusiasm for the film, stating, "It’s fantastic. Cillian [Murphy] is phenomenal. He’s everything you would want him to be. I think it’s almost three hours. It goes so fast, it’s great."

Boasting an impressive ensemble cast featuring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Rami Malek, Robert Downey Jr., and Matt Damon, among others, there is no doubt that Nolan fans will flock to theaters come July 21.

However, Universal Pictures will surely be keeping a watchful eye, hoping that Greta Gerwig's Barbie, also set to release on the same day, will not rain on its parade.
