Is Natalie Portman returning to Star Wars?

Natalie Portman is open to reprising her role as Senator Padme Amidala if the right opportunity presents itself.

The teenage Queen of Naboo has often been a contentious character on internet message boards, but one thing that all Star Wars fans can appreciate is Natalie Portman's outstanding performance in the role. Given this consensus, the American actress recently shared her insights on the possibility of returning to the beloved space opera.

Natalie Portman on returning to Star Wars

In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Natalie Portman responded to a Redditor's question about the potential return of Padmé Amidala and Natalie Portman to the Star Wars universe, saying:

I have no information on this. No one’s ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.

Natalie Portman's last appearance in the Star Wars franchise was nearly two decades ago, in 2005's Revenge of the Sith, where her character Senator Padme tragically died after giving birth to Luke and Leia Skywalker. Nevertheless, some actors from both the prequel and original trilogies, such as Ewan McGregor, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and the late Carrie Fisher, have returned to reprise their roles in recent Star Wars projects.

Obi-Wan Kenobi received generally positive reviews, with critics praising McGregor's performance, action sequences, and John William's musical score.

Considering Disney's recent track record of developing numerous Star Wars spin-offs, such as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series that reunited Ewan McGregor with Hayden Christensen (who portrayed Anakin Skywalker in the prequel trilogy), it stands to reason that Natalie Portman might have the opportunity to reunite with the duo.

Unfortunately, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that a second season of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will not be part of the upcoming lineup of Star Wars projects. As a result, Natalie Portman might need to explore alternative avenues for a potential comeback in the franchise.

The role of Padme Amidala helped Natalie Portman gain international recognition.

Hopefully, Lucasfilm will seize the opportunity to bring her back to a galaxy far, far away in the near future while she's still enthusiastic about returning to the franchise.
