Liam Hemsworth to replace Henry Cavill in The Witcher Season 4

Netflix's renewal of The Witcher for a fourth season came with news of the departure of the lead actor that arguably brought it to life.

We still don't know when The Witcher Season 3 will premiere on Netflix, but a fourth season is already confirmed. Unfortunately, it comes with a very big caveat.

Liam Hemsworth Replace Henry Cavill Witcher Season Scaled
It was pretty optimistic thinking Netflix would wait for Henry Cavill's schedule to clear up after his return to the DC Universe.

According to Netflix, its live-action adaptation of the popular Witcher books will have a new monster slayer. Starting with Season 4, Henry Cavill will vacate his role as Geralt of Rivia and pave the way for Liam Hemsworth.

In a statement shared by Netflix, Cavill had this to say:

My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.

For what it's worth (put intended), Liam Hemsworth is reportedly a huge fan of the Witcher series. He appears to be quite ecstatic about his new role, saying "I'm truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world."

Of course, being a fan is different from being a fan, if you get what we mean. Fans have described Cavill as a nerd trapped inside a chiseled body of a god. You'll find plenty of clips online of Cavill nerding out. He's even built PCs by himself, upgraded the said PC's cooling, and even went as far as to confess in front of live TV that he's spending at least four hours a day playing video games.

While Hemsworth doesn't have to be as big of a nerd as Cavill is, it sure would help.

Liam Hemsworth Replace Henry Cavill Witcher Season
Liam Hemsworth is believed to have been in the running for the role of the MCU's Thor before his older brother, Chris Hemsworth, was chosen.

Cavill was one of the biggest driving forces for a more book-accurate take on the fantasy series, even clashing with the showrunner's vision for the show at times. It'll be interesting to see if Hemsworth will show similar dedication to the role as Cavill did.

Having said that, many fans are confused if upset to see Cavill vacate his iconic role. If it's any consolation, Cavill isn't hanging up his swords and medallion to play more Warhammer. Instead, Cavill is returning to the DC Universe as Superman following his not-so-secret post-credits cameo in Black Adam.

As for the Witcher franchise, Season 3 is on track to premiere next summer. Meanwhile, fans can look forward to watching Blood Origin in December. Finally, a new Witcher video game trilogy is confirmed along with a remake of the original The Witcher game on Unreal Engine 5. It's a great time to be a fan of The Witcher franchise, and we're hoping that Hemsworth can do his time as Geralt justice.
