Turn 10 Studios pulls up at Developer Direct to showcase Forza Motorsport

The upcoming racing sim was the only game featured at this year's Developer Direct to not have a release date.

Nearly two years after Playground Games gave us the vast and arid open-world desert setting of Mexico in Forza Horizon 5, Turn 10 Studios will bring the racing action back to the tracks with the release of Forza Motorsport.

Forza Motorsport will reportedly bring over 100 new cars for the first time in the series.

After being confirmed last year, Turn 10 joined several other first-party Xbox Game Studios developers to give audiences a glimpse at what might be a reboot of its best-selling racing game.

The first non-numbered Forza Motorsport installment since the 2005 title, Forza Motorsport is actually the eighth mainline entry in Xbox's racing franchise.

As showcased at the first-ever Xbox Developer Direct, Forza Motorsport will feature over 500 cars that players can unlock, collect, and race in, as well as nearly a thousand unique upgrades. As expected, Forza Motorsport is a visual smorgasbord and is easily the best-looking game on the Xbox Series X. According to Turn 10, it used a spectra-photometer to scan and develop life-like paint models for the cars in the game. In addition, Forza Motorsport will simulate damage and dirt buildup, so your cars are going to look worse the more you drive it, as it should.

Turn 10 showed off the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa at the Developer Direct. If what we saw from the event is any indication, the five new environments and other rebuilt fan favorites will wow audiences as soon as the game is out. Turn 10 claims Forza Motorsport will have ten times more detail than Forza Motorsport 7 using physically based lighting, a procedural cloud system, dynamic time and weather and volumetric fog.

Unfortunately, Turn 10 wasn't quite able to reveal a release date for Forza Motorsport, which is worrying fans.

Forza Motorsport is still expected to launch sometime this year.

For now, we should give Turn 10 the benefit of the doubt. The trailer paints Forza Motorsport as a completely polished game, so we don't think we'll have to wait too long to get a chance to go behind the wheels of the racing sim. If nothing else, Forza Motorsport was part of the list of games that The Game Awards confirmed will be coming out during the first half of the year.

Aside from Forza Motorsport, the release dates for both Redfall and Minecraft Legends were also revealed at the Developer Direct.
