Why are Street Fighter 6 fans unhappy with Cammy "bringing sexy back"?

Street Fighter 6 unveiled unlockable costumes for its classic roster, including Cammy’s iconic sexy unitard, but some fans are unhappy.

Street Fighter 6 fans are divided with their response to the roster’s unlockable Outfit 2, particularly with Cammy getting her classic sexy green swimsuit look. Some fans dislike the fan service, while others are happy to see its return.

Street Fighter 6 is being hailed as a return-to-form for Capcom’s iconic fighting game franchise, compared to 2016’s divisive Street Fighter 5. Response has been largely positive to SF6 and many fans are already calling it the best fighting game on the Steam platform. It has already reached over 1 million players (compared to SFV having less than half of that number during its first week after launch).

Just a day prior to the worldwide release of Street Fighter 6 last June 2, Capcom announced all the World Warriors revealed in the current roster will have a second outfit that can be unlocked.

According to Capcom:

Fans of the classics, rejoice! Behold Outfit 2 for all 18 characters featuring looks for returning fighters from previous games in the Street Fighter series. New characters have their personalities on full display in their own drip.

Unlock Outfit 2 for each character during your adventures in World Tour. Alternatively, Outfit 2 also can be purchased instantly with Fighter Coins.

The announcement made long-time fans of the Street Fighter franchise happy, with all the classic characters getting versions of their traditional looks.

Cammy's iconic uniform, beret, and pigtails ensemble has been around since 1993 when the character was introduced in Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers.

However, there are also a number of fans who had a negative reaction, particularly with Cammy getting her sexy military uniform again. These latter fans pointed out how the new look Cammy was given was better, being sufficiently feminine without regressing to the fan service costume that she had been known for since her debut in Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers back in 1993.

But while some fans are reacting negatively to the fan service in bringing back Cammy’s revealing fighting wear, other fans cannot be happier. Over on Reddit, Cammy fans are very happy, with the Street Fighter sub-Reddit (r/StreetFighter) posting pics and screenshots from the game. And in some cases, NSFW images like this one.

On that note, fans of Cammy’s sexier look pointed out that Chun Li’s Outfit 2 is also quite revealing, as it returns to the look that highlight her legs and thighs. And why is there no backlash and outrage for Zangief going back to his old-school wrestling trunks and exposed legs?

Street Fighter 6 is now available for Windows PC, Sony Playstation 4 and Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Players who log in to the game will get a free "Just Picked Up SF6" title.

  1. Why are you calling "fans" a bunch of Twitter freaks that are just ignorant, miserable, neo-puritan and neo-marxist NPCs, anti-fans, impostors and parasites who know nothing about Street Fighter or video games in general and were not fans of Street Fighter in the first place and want fun and beauty to be sucked away from popular things that people loved for years or decades because they want other people and real fans to be as miserable as them? STOP CALLING THEM "FANS", THEY'RE CLEARLY NOT, PERIOD!
