Bandai Namco unveils new game Sand Land at Summer Game Fest

Sand Land is inspired by a manga series of the same name by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.

Many avid gamers will agree that the Summer Game Fest provided many pleasant surprises, including a gore-filled Mortal Kombat 1 trailer that has everybody excited.

Sand Land will see gamers control demon prince Beelzebub on adventures across their desert world.

During the digital video games event, Geoff Keighley revealed that a new adventure game coming from Bandai Namco. The game, titled Sand Land, is based on a 2000 manga of the same name by Akira Toriyama.

Toriyama is the brain behind Dragon Ball, one of the most popular manga series of all time that has since spawned a multi-media franchise.

From what we have seen of the game, it will lean heavily on Toriyama’s art style. The setting is an unknown desert world with human-like characters, fantastic beasts, and robots. The trailer shows the protagonist on an adventure and we see him demonstrate some powers and fighting skills that look super cool and interesting.

If the game follows the manga’s story, it will see our protagonist, demon prince Beelzebub, team up with Sheriff Rao to put an end to the reign of a corrupt king who is keeping the world impoverished. On hand to support the two is Beelzebub’s friend Thief who accompanies them on their adventures.

If Sand Land is faithful to the manga, then Beelzebub will team up with Sheriff Rao to free the people from the reign of a tyrannical ruler.

Summer Game Fest is now one of the biggest events in the gaming industry, effectively "killing" E3. This year, it featured announcements from the biggest gaming companies like a new Prince of Persia game, a Yakuza spin-off, and a trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
