XDefiant is launching this summer with an open beta later this month

Ubisoft announced that the upcoming team-based first-person shooter will have a short open beta weekend from June 21-23.

Ubisoft’s Call of Duty-killer is finally getting a summer release window and players won’t have to wait long to start playing the upcoming first-person shooter.

XDefiant launches with a six week preseason.

XDefiant has been hyped by fans as a worthy challenger to Call of Duty’s dominance in the first-person shooter genre. So far, players has had extremely positive comments about the upcoming game during its closed beta period.

During the recently concluded Ubisoft Forward, executive producer Mark Rubin announced that XDefiant is launching "later this summer." Players will also be getting a chance to play the upcoming title before it releases. Ubisoft revealed that an open beta test will be happening from June 21-23 to stress test the game’s servers and debut the improvements from the closed beta.

The open beta will feature crossplay between PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Ubisoft released a registration link for players interested in participating in the upcoming playtest period.

"We received a lot of great feedback from our players after the end of our Closed Beta," XDefiant creative director Safy Saada said. "And for the Open Session, we’ll likely see some new faction balancing (particularly for Libertad) based on player feedback, as well as weapon balancing based on data we’ve collected from the Closed Beta."

He adds, "We’re committed to improving the game based on player feedback. With that, the goal of this Open Session is to validate some of those key improvements we’ve made (mainly a new netcode and better input lag). With the emphasis of this being ‘open’, we want to put our servers to the test and get a read on its stability at a large scale in order to be ready by launch."

Ubisoft has not yet announced the exact release date for XDefiant but has said that it will be kicking off with a six-week preseason featuring all the content coming at launch. This includes 14 maps, five locations, 24 weapons, and more. The game will then move to Year 1 with Ubisoft San Francisco adding new content later on including four new factions, 12 weapons, and another 12 new maps.

Year 1 for XDefiant will be broken down into four seasons, each bringing its own set of new content.

Year 1 will be divided into four Seasons with each one having a 90-tier Battle Pass. Each season will debut 1 faction, 3 weapons, and 3 maps.

Ubisoft is gearing up for the preseason happening later this quarter. The company is expecting a huge turnout as previous beta tests attracted over 1 million players with the game also being the most streamed title on Twitch.

"We’re looking forward to our players getting really excited about the content we’re going to deliver at preseason," Saada said. "With this being a new IP, I’m also looking forward to naturally building our community around topics like future factions, weapons, and maybe even new mode ideas."

XDefiant is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S later this summer.
