Persona 3 Reload announced at Xbox Games Showcase

The arrival of more Persona games on the Xbox is a promising sign as Japanese developers have been traditionally averse to the platform.

There have been several rumors about a Persona 3 Remake in previous weeks and, finally, we found out the truth at the recently concluded Xbox Games Showcase.

Persona 3 Reload will only contain the base version of the game.

Atlus confirmed Persona 3 Reload earlier this year at the Xbox Games Showcase, which is coming to the PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X as well as the Game Pass. But, subsequent reports revealed that the game will also make its way to the PS4 and the PS5.

Prior to their official reveal, the trailers for the games were accidentally leaked on Instagram.

According to Atlus , Persona 3 Reload is coming in Early 2024. It will be a remake of only the core game and won't include content from Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable. This means players cannot play as the female protagonist which first appeared in the portable version.

"So first I'd like to mention that since the basic concept of the Persona 3 remake was to remake the Persona 3, we don't have the FES and Portable contents included," Persona 3 Reload producer Ryota Niitsuma said. "We wanted to really genuinely work on recreating the Persona 3 experience."

Persona 3 was originally launched in 2006 for the PlayStation 2. A shorter version of the game, Persona 3 Portable, also came out in 2009 for the PlayStation Portable. The abridged version was later ported to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

In Persona 3, gamers will take control of a high-school student who is part of the "Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad", a group that investigates anomalies called Dark Hour. During the Dark Hour, members of the group can venture into Tartarus to battle creatures called Shadows using a manifestation of their psyche known as a Persona.

Players will not be able to play as the female protagonist in the remake.

Aside from being an RPG, Persona 3 also has elements of simulation games. The player progresses through a full academic year, forming relationships to improve their battle capabilities.

The original game was very well received by fans and critics and is credited for transforming the series. Critics praised the game’s refreshing take on the Megami Tensei concept and the well-refined battle system.
