Sony revealed release dates for two new Marvel movies

Are we getting a potential release date for Spider-Man 4?

As fans continue to wait for the release of Spider-Man 4, license holder Sony just announced two new release dates for upcoming Marvel movies, one of which could be a major blockbuster - aside of dates, we don't actually know anything else about these untitled projects yet.

Sony has ownership of the Spider-Man franchise.

Sony made quite a stir yesterday, revealing tentative release dates for two untitled Marvel movies. One of the movies will be a live-action film while the other does not have a classification. The announcement by Sony is a good sign that the production is on schedule and we may be getting an official reveal soon.

One of the Sony/Marvel movies is scheduled for November 8, 2024. Die-hard Marvel Cinematic Universe fans know that this was the previous release date for Deadpool 3 before it was changed to May 3, 2024. The third Deadpool film would have ended Phase 5 of the Multiverse Saga but delays to other films pushed the film to an earlier release date.

The other film is scheduled to release on June 27, 2025, and is designated as a live-action movie. The date puts this upcoming Marvel film in direct competition with Disney’s Moana, however superhero flicks have often come out on top when going head to head with other blockbusters.

What possible movies could be shown on these dates?

Venom 3 is possibly one of the movies that Sony is hinting at.

Sony only has control over one Marvel property, which is the Spider-Man franchise. We say "only", but that encompasses a huge selection of characters and comic runs. Fans are now speculating on what the new Sony movies would be.

Several Spider-Man universe films have yet to be released. Kraven the Hunter is set to premiere on October 6, 2023, while El Muerto is scheduled for January 12, 2024. Madame Web is coming next on February 16, 2024, with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse debuting on March 29, 2024.

It is unlikely that these films would take up the slots that Sony recently announced. However, one potential candidate would be Venom 3 starring Tom Hardy. It was recently revealed by actor Juno Temple that filming for the third Venom movie would start very soon. The November 2024 release date should be a perfect fit barring any delays caused by the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.

The June 2025 release date is prime summer blockbuster territory and Spider-Man 4 would be the first project that comes to mind. Kevin Feige already teased that writers have already started working on the story for the movie. However, it may still be on hold because of the ongoing writers’ strike.

Tom Holland recently announced that he is taking a break from filming.

Another complication to Spider-Man 4 is Tom Holland’s recent announcement that he will be taking a break from filming. The Spider-Man star recently revealed that filming his most recent project, The Crowded Room, took a toll on his mental health, necessitating the year-long hiatus.

There have been rumors that a live-action Miles Morales film and an animated movie starring Gwen Stacy are in the planning stages. It would be unlikely that these films would take up the announced schedules as they have not yet been officially announced.

We will just have to wait for Sony to reveal details on the upcoming films. We would like to hear from you on what Marvel movie you think Sony releasing on these dates!

  1. Of all the super hero movies, the Spiderman series is the only one I am interested in at this point. Can’t wait for these movies!
