A petition to make Starfield a PS5 exclusive hilariously fails

The petition author wants to "punish arrogant Xbox owners" by making the Bethesda IP exclusive to the Sony console.

We have a very strong candidate for the trolliest of troll petitions for the year, and it concerns Bethesda's highly anticipated upcoming spacefaring RPG, Starfield. Having confirmed that the game will skip the PS5, it is understandable that fans would speak out - but someone tried flipping things up entirely.

One internet user had the time to write a lengthy petition on change.org.

A petition to make Starfield a PS5 exclusive - yes, exclusive - has been making rounds on social media. This is an obvious troll job but people, of course, have been signing it. Because it’s the internet, it will be impossible to know how many of these signatures are serious. In any case, that number will be too high.

Currently, the petition has gathered over 1,500 signatures and counting. We do not know how many actually read the petition, but it’s seriously hilarious. If you have some time to spare, head on over to change.org to read the petition in its entirety.

The petition started by Benjamin Dickey argues that having Starfield as an Xbox exclusive will hurt PlayStation and its player base. The petition claims that exclusivity will limit the number of players and allows Microsoft to charge higher prices for the game.

The petition hilariously claims that Xbox has only 12 dedicated players.

"Second, Xbox and its 12 dedicated players do NOT deserve Starfield or any exclusivity," the petition reads. "Not only are they arrogant and annoying but since the showcase they have been irritating. They keep sharing Starfield news telling us "get an Xbox" like if they didn’t complain about Spiderman or Ghost of Tsushima or any of the PS titles themselves."

The petition goes on to claim that exclusivity will not do Starfield any good. It goes on to take a potshot at Bethesda’s decision to have Starfield locked at 30FPS on consoles and argues that it is due to the need to support the less powerful Xbox Series S.

The petition also mentions the terrible state in which Redfall launched. The petitioner claims that Phil Spencer failed to ensure the quality of the Arkane Studios game when it was released. Spencer was reportedly upset at the issues Redfall had when it launched in May.

Reading through the comments, most of the users signing the petition do not believe that it would change anything. Many have signed it just to leave a comment calling out the author of the petition, while many others likely just did it for the laughs.

Starfield will likely be an Xbox exclusive for the foreseeable future.

The current console war between Xbox and PlayStation has been fueled by Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Sony argues that Microsoft will make future Activision Blizzard titles like Call of Duty exclusive to the platform. Starfield has been one of the games cited by Sony as proof of Microsoft’s plan to make future titles exclusive to the Xbox platform.

Microsoft has so far denied that it has plans to make future Call of Duty titles exclusive to its platforms. However, games like Starfield, Redfall, Forza Motorsport, and Fable - granted, some with past history with Microsoft - will be exclusives.

Will Starfield be on the PlayStation sometime in the future? Well, it is as unlikely as the petition succeeding. In other words, you will have to have an Xbox Series X/S or a PC to play Starfield when it comes out in September.
