Sasha Calle met with DC Studios to discuss Supergirl future

After a successful debut in The Flash, the actor reportedly met with Peter Safran to talk about the potential plans for Supergirl in the DCU.

The Flash was meant to reboot the DC Universe and with it comes the uncertainty for its cast. However, actor Sasha Calle is still hopeful that she continue on as Supergirl for the DCU.

Calle believes that the role of Supergirl was written for her.

Calle debuted as Supergirl in The Flash and has seemingly grown fond of her role in the movie. The actor has spoken about wanting to continue playing the role as DC Studios works on its next slate of movies which includes Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Calle revealed that she has met with DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran to discuss her future in the franchise. The actor also expressed her fondness for Supergirl.

"I hope to continue playing Supergirl," Calle said. "I love her so deeply, and I feel so connected to her."

Calle hopes to reprise her role in future projects.

Calle also shared that she believes that the role of Supergirl in The Flash was meant for her. The actor said that the role was "written in the stars for me."

"It couldn't have been any other character," Calle shared. "I really do believe that Supergirl was written in the stars for me. When I started to become her, it just made sense. It felt like my whole life was preparing me for this role in a way."

While her future in the DC Universe is uncertain at this point, Calle is already looking to explore the character of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl. She revealed to Entertainment Today that she wants to explore Supergirl’s life on Earth.

"I just want to dive deeper into Kara and her feelings into her day to day," Calle shared. "I would just love to see her in regular clothes, in human clothes. As a fan, the whole time that I was filming, I kept thinking, 'What would she wear? What glasses would she wear?'"

She adds, "[In The Flash], we don't meet her human, realized self, so as a fan, that would be something very cool."

Calle's portrayal of Kara Zor-El reportedly got a thumbs up from Henry Cavill.

Not much is known about James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. However, during the presentation of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, Gunn said that they will have a different take on Supergirl.

"We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth. She is much more hard-core and not the Supergirl we’re used to," Gunn said.

Will we be seeing more of Sasha Calle as Supergirl? We certainly hope so. Gunn’s vision of a different take on Supergirl fits Calle perfectly. She is, after all, the first Latina to play the role of Kara Zor-El. And she does have the look that would fit an edgier take on Superman’s cousin.

While it will be up to Gunn and Safran to decide, former Superman star Henry Cavill gave Calle’s portrayal of Supergirl a thumbs up which means a lot for the young actor.

"I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz? Does Superman approve?’" Calle revealed in an interview with EW. "And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’ I think, to me, that meant the world, because it’s Henry Cavill, Man of Steel."

  1. She is young enough for it but wasn't the OG Supergirl a blonde? It has been awhile since I read the comics.
