New Resident Evil: Death Island unites Leon and Jill for the first time

The new trailer shows Leon and Jill taking on the hordes of zombies together with Chris and Claire Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers.

After the recent success of their Resident Evil 4 Remake, Capcom released a new trailer for their latest CG-animated movie, Resident Evil: Death Island, that features everyone's favorite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Rebecca Chambers. What's exciting about this trailer is that all these characters are seen teaming up to remove a new evil. The trailer also shows a release date of July 7th, 2023, for Japan, but no information about worldwide release has been shared as of yet.

While we've seen multiple games and movies centered around different characters like Chris Redfield, Leon, and Jill, we've never seen many of these protagonists working together or even interacting with each other. This applies to the most unexpected interactions seen in the trailer - Jill and Leon. Jill and Leon have always been protagonists in their respective titles, but seeing them both in a single movie and interacting with each other was a huge surprise for the fans who adore them both. All it took was 20 years of waiting.

During the first teaser trailer released a few months ago, we see Jill Valentine at the end of a 30-second teaser trailer of the movie. We also saw Leon and Chris in the trailer. However, it was not confirmed whether they were going to interact with each other or not. But the new trailer confirms that they will work together alongside other notable characters (Chris, Rebecca, and Claire).

According to the movie's official synopsis, the movie will feature two separate storylines that will eventually unite all the characters. Leon is tasked to rescue Dr. Antonio Taylor from the kidnappers but comes across a mysterious woman that halts his pursuit. Meanwhile, Chris is investigating a zombie outbreak in San Francisco, with no source of the infection except the knowledge that all the victims had visited the infamous Alcatraz Island. Alcatraz Island is a prison island, and in this case, apparently the source of the zombie infection.

Everyone from the previous games and movie titles get together in Death Island.

Alcatraz Island will become a "Death Island" once the team reaches the prison island to investigate the new T-Virus. The events of Resident Evil: Death Island takes place between Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. And the movie itself is a continuation of the previously released CG-animated Resident Evil: Vendetta.

Resident Evil: Death Island is directed by Eiichiro Hasumi and produced by Makoto Fukami. Fukami is best known for his complex and intricate world-building and developing narratives, with most of his experience in anime and manga. Fukami is known for delivering action-packed and emotional narratives.

The movie will be released in Japan on July 7th, 2023. While we don't know the date for worldwide release, we know that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is responsible for global distribution.
