DOOM, Grand Theft Auto 3, and Super Mario 64, are just some of the games that transcend their respective genres as their effect encompasses the entire gaming industry. Resident Evil 4, which came out in 2005, belongs to the said elite company.
Decades after it came out, many still consider it the best Resident Evil game ever, if not of the entire genre. Resident Evil 4's seamless marriage of its survival horror and action elements perfectly complemented the decision to switch to an over-the-shoulder perspective.
You only need to look at the shooters that came after RE4 to prove how influential it was. While RE4 wasn't the first to implement such changes, its massive popularity proved that this was worth copying.
It's safe to say that remaking Resident Evil 4 is as dangerous as an encounter with Resident Evil 3's Nemesis, which is widely considered the scariest enemy in the series.
But, while that's true, Capcom also proved that it knew how to honor the originals and add a modern flavor to them at the same time. The Resident Evil 2 Remake came out to much critical acclaim in 2019. Although the remake of Resident Evil 3, which hit the market the following year, wasn't met with the same level of enthusiasm, it was for reasons that Capcom could rectify and fix come the release of the inevitable remake of Resident Evil 4.
Now that we're only one week away ahead of the release of the RE4 Remake on March 24, critics have had a chance to give us their thoughts about this modern re-telling of Leon's daring rescue attempt of the POTUS's daughter.

With an average metascore of 93 on Metacritic on the PlayStation 5, it's safe to say that Capcom has a huge hit on their hands. However, it's hard to deny what other more nit-picky reviewers have to say about it. Jessica Conditt from Engadget, in particular, describes the upcoming remake as a "half-step backward for Capcom remakes", describing it as a "pleading mess of unfulfilled nostalgia and frustration" and pinning the blame on its clumsy movement and combat mechanics.
On the other hand, critics like Kazuma Hashimoto from Siliconera weren't quite on board the nostalgia train as well, saying that the RE4 remake is a "fine" outing with "passable" quality.
Ultimately, the decision to try out the RE4 Remake is completely up to you. Thankfully, a free-to-play demo is available if you'd like to check it out beforehand.
